Time Wasted, Time Gone!!!

08:59

I got a good review last week and I’m so excited about it. Read about it here.

In your quiet moments, what do you think about? How far you’ve come, or how far you still have to go? Do you think about the best that might happen in a situation, or the worst?

In this post I will be writing about the connection time management has to many of the regrets we have. I am sure you’re scanning your mind for the link between both. Well time is one of life’s most valuable possessions, as it is something you can never get back. Subsequently, one of the most essential life skills to master is time management. After all, time management is really life management. Learning how to make every day count for something is the objective. But it takes ridding your life of procrastination and a great deal of self-discipline.

Even Oprah, a woman who has unarguably made a great deal of impact with her allotted time on this earth, regrets time wasted.  On turning 60 she lamented, “I think the hardest part of aging really is recognizing the time that you wasted and the things that you worried about that really didn’t matter…. That’s really the only regret that I have.”

My dad likes to say, “Rere, if you don’t manage your time well, people will help you do it. It is not every place you are invited to that you go especially if the person did not give you enough notice. They will keep you so busy with their activities that you’ll forget what is important for your own life.”

Of course I have never agreed with him when he says this, because it is at the exact moment I am going for “a friend’s thing”.  But to be honest I have come to realize that the reason why many people grow up to have regrets is that they did not manage their time well when they had the chance. I do not want to live my life feeling like I have to attend to every other person’s beck and call.

In the world today, we have more laid back people than we have ever had. Don’t get me wrong; the thirst for wealth, fame and success has definitely increased but only a few are willing to take the risk attached to getting these. There are many factors to consider when we talk about time management and regrets, for example the kind of friends you keep. Since we are all human and we have different races on earth, a friend can either slow you down or make you run faster.

If you don’t set a standard for what you’ll accept in life, it will be so easy to slip into behaviours and attitudes or a quality of life that is below what you deserve.  It is not fair that you have to beat yourself up about lost opportunities or misused chances. Why don’t you focus instead on the now, and think of the chance you are getting to look back at your past and smile.

What you didn’t do today will not matter in 5 years time, it is what you did that will matter. Your life is yours to create – you are responsible for your life. Managing your time well, doing what is important first and prioritizing is very important in making important life decisions. Your choices, your decisions should be hinged on what you choose, not what a friend who you don’t even know his/her surname says.

One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.

So spend your time wisely, so as to avoid regrets.
